Orthodox Christian Morning Time FAQs

What is the intended age for the Orthodox Christian Morning Time Curriculum?
While many Orthodox education resources that are already produced are geared towards younger children (ages 3 to 6), the Orthodox Christian Morning Time Curriculum is geared especially towards children ages 7 and above.  Most of the copy work would be too difficult and too long for younger children.  Since it is recommended to read from a Synaxarion if possible, the level of reading and content (though some editing is recommended anyway) is best suited for children above age seven.  If the youngest child in your family is age 6, by all means, include them.  However, if you have a family of younger children, I would save this until they are older!  My boys are still working through the curriculum at ages 8 and 13 and the level is perfect for them!

I am planning (hopefully soon) to release the copy work from the curriculum as a separate item in cursive so that the copy work will work better for children in the 2nd through 4th grade range that are probably studying cursive.  The item would be a free add-on, upon request, to anyone that purchases the full curriculum.

Why doesn't the Orthodox Christian Morning Time Curriculum include feast days or follow the church calendar?
Practically, it would be very difficult to line up the curriculum to match the actual Saint's feast days on the calendar.  If using a Synaxarion, some lives might take four days to read, while others take two.  Families might be on different church calendars, start the school year at different times, take vacation at different times, get sick at different times, etc.  I'm pretty sure Australia starts their school year in January!  I thought about this while beginning to make the curriculum and just did not see a way to get this style of curriculum, that is meant for the academic year, to actually follow the Church calendar.  I think it makes the most sense, to put the curriculum aside on Feast Days, or lesser feast days that are special to your family, go to Church and focus on readings for the day from another source!  I happen to love the readings from Spiritual Fragrance Publishing on feast days for my youngest.
