The 2026-2027 School Year is Almost Here!

Wow! - It's been a very long time since I posted here. I guess there is a reason for that. I had been wanting to post an update that we had finished the Orthodox Morning Time Curriculum that I made and still enjoyed/enjoy using! However, a couple of things happened that prevented that from happening.

First of all, my oldest son hit a burn out at the end of the school year. We had tried out a charter school at the beginning of his 8th grade year, which didn't work out and he ended up having to redo all of his subjects starting in early November. He is still finishing up US History. Towards the middle of May I had to revert to doing only prayers and spiritual reading, in the morning, to help him get through the last six weeks of Algebra, etc. Poor thing!! I'm very proud of how hard he worked to make up for the lost time and get ready for high school.

Secondly, I had to come to the realization that the Orthodox Morning Time Curriculum might not be ideal in its current form for all children depending on various "neurodivergence" and/or learning disabilities. While my kids together have completed the curriculum through Week 20, I'm not sure if my youngest should do the curriculum on his own next year. We are waiting to hear back from an evaluation, but have noticed issues with too many transitions between subjects, and too many routine changes between days, causing fatigue and other issues for him.

Rather than completing the Morning Time Curriculum at this time, I have purchased the Simply Classical Bible Curriculum for my younger son. Simply Classical is the "special needs" version of Memoria Press Curriculum. This would be a mostly verbal curriculum and I can make sure that my son has comprehended, and mastered, understanding of important stories of the Bible. We would still continue reading Orthodox books each morning, it would just been done in a lower pressure way. Once I think my son has really grasped the contents of a typical Children's Bible, we might return to the Morning Time Curriculum. With that said, my oldest son had memorized the contents of most of the Bible Stories by age 6 and would have no problem adding in the Morning Time Curriculum as a young child. All children are different!

My children change so fast, sometimes it feels impossible to know what will work two months from now!
